Honey Butter Rolls

One thing about me is that I love bread. On top of that, I love a good roll. You know, those rolls that are so fluffy it isn’t even a question you are going to eat one. Yeah, those are these rolls. It has taken me a while to test a recipe I like and that makes me want to come back for more. This recipe is extremely fluffy, yet crispy and golden on top. It has butter and and sweetness in the honey. It is the perfect roll.

You will only need a few simple ingredients when it comes to this delicious recipe. I do want to say I took inspiration from my daily scroll of Tik-Tok. I was looking for an “essential” roll. A roll that can be not only made during holiday’s but honestly anytime.

For a general note as long as you have a few simple ingredients you can adjust and make bread. You need flour, butter, yeast, salt, and honey. If you are on a budget, this is something that can be made in numerous quantity, be made weekly and reasonably when it comes to price. You will know all the ingredients you are eating, and have something homemade for you or your family.

Let’s get into it!

This recipe will make about 15 rolls.

Ingredients:

Yeast Mix:

  • 2.5 tsp. instant active yeast

  • 1 cup warm milk

  • 1.5 tsp. honey

Dough Mix:

  • 1/3 cup honey

  • 1/3 cup melted butter

  • 3-4 cups AP Unbleached Flour

  • 3 tsp. salt

Baking:

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 3 tablespoon melted butter

Directions:

  1. In a bowl add in your warm milk, honey and active yeast. In order to ensure your yeast combines well and does not get “killed” by heat, make sure you milk is warm but not scorching hot. A good way to test this is by sticking your finger in it, and if it is comfortable you can add the yeast. Combine mixture, and let sit for 5-8 minutes until you see the yeast clump together.

  2. In a separate bowl or stand mixture add in 1/3 cup honey, 1/3 cup melted butter and salt. Mix well and add yeast mixture into bowl. If you are using a bowl begin to add in flour 1 cup at a time and mix. If you are using a stand mixture add in 1 cup of flour at a time and mix on 2 speed.

  3. Once your dough forms where it is semi sticky, but kneadable, take it out of the bowl and begin to knead by hand. (I found that with this dough kneading by hand is the best option, even if you are combining everything in a stand mixer). Take a pinch of flour and spread across counter and begin to knew dough back and fourth, and around in circles. (Add more flour if needed)

  4. Place rolled dough into a bowl, covered with a towel and place on top of oven with surface light on. Let dough double in size, 1-3 hours depending on temperature of room.

  5. Take dough out and punch excess air out. Cut into 15 pieces. Take one piece and begin to roll into a ball, pinch the bottom and smooth out top of dough. Continue to roll in hand until smooth dough ball is formed. Repeat for each ball of dough. Place the dough in a 9x13 baking dish 5 rows of 3. Place towel overtop of dish and place on oven again until doubled in size, 1-3 hours.

  6. After rolls have risen preheat oven to 350 degrees and brush the tops of rolls with egg wash. Bake for 22-25 minutes. Take the honey and melted butter and brush golden tops of finished rolls.

  7. Enjoy!
